STORMY SKIES

I remember so well this evening spent on a ridge about 10 miles east of the Rocky Mountains in northern Colorado. We were waiting for a beautiful sunset to photograph but it seemed we waited forever and nothing happened. Then all of a sudden the skies exploded in oranges, golds, reds, blues, and purples! We took numerous photos to use as reference for my painting. This one I created in oil with both brush and palette knife on an oil panel measuring 18x24 and had it custom framed to 24x30 overall. Our sunsets here are truly amazing.
